Snippet Sunday - The Navy's Ghost - She survived, right?

Welcome to the Snippet Sunday on the Weird, the Wild, and the Wicked. Thank you so much for visiting. If you choose to comment today, I really appreciate it. The snippets are from my latest release, The Navy's Ghost, a military romantic suspense, though I call it my Menage a'SEALs. No paranormal critters in this one, though there's plenty of kick-ass adventure and hot sex. Just to be clear, this is a M/F/M erotic romance. You can read last year's snippet HERE.

Chief Warrant Officer Todd Hunter is in love with Ensign Christiana "Ghost" Brickman, even if she is a Navy SEAL and part of his squad. He'd saved her from a deadly wound, but he hasn't seen her for a few days, and doubts have crept in.

Todd “Magic” Hunter lengthened his strides down the hallway of Coronado Medical Center, searching for the nurse’s station. His gut clenched tight and he told himself for the hundredth time Ghost survived. Dammit, if the stupid doctors lost her after he’d managed to clamp her artery shut, he’d tear this place apart.
Breathe, jackass. Fury’s not gonna solve this.
The hospital’s halls sat relatively quiet and vacant in the after-dinner hour and Magic searched for the nurse’s station. No one appeared to be anywhere.
“Where are the fucking nurses?” Todd swung his gaze around the hallway, but no one materialized. He scanned the walls for the nurse rotation board behind the desk and found Brickman listed beside a nurse’s name and the number fifteen. He could almost hear CPO “Rimshot” Stanton’s voice whispering “Target acquired.”
Some of Magic’s tension faded as he approached Ghost’s room. She’d been moved out of the ICU into the main portion of the medical center. Means she’s out of immediate danger. When he reached the door, he paused and took a few deep breaths, nervous. Pussy. Just open the damn door and look in on her. She’s not dead.
He hoped.

You gotta love when lack of communication plays tricks with your mind. ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writing Warrior list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Anastasia Vitsky, SJ Maylee, Gem Sivad, Goran Zidar, Zee Monodee, and Karla Doyle.

If you're interested in more from The Navy's Ghost, here's the blurb:

A SEAL is strongest with her Team…

Ensign Christiana "Ghost" Brickman is the only female SEAL to survive BUD/S training, a real Navy Jane. But when an ambush ends her career as an active SEAL, she’s free to pursue other interests. Like her two best friends Lt. Jim "Retro" Waters and Chief Warrant Officer Todd "Magic" Hunter. She's wanted them for over a year, but never dared to approach them while in the squad.

Retro has fought his dark desires since high school, certain the need to share a woman unnatural. Magic had never considered sharing before Ghost mentions it, but it solves his dilemma of choosing between his best friend and his woman. But Retro balks at Ghost’s offer to share and retreats from both when she marries Magic.

Everyone feels Retro’s loss, but he ignores the ache of their broken connection in favor of living ‘normal.’ When Ghost and the other wives of Beta Squad are kidnapped, Retro must reevaluate how much both Ghost and Magic mean to him. And he must decide how far he's willing to go to save the woman he loves, before she becomes the Navy's ghost.

It's available now at Smashwords, Amazon, All Romance eBooks, Kobo Books, and Barnes&Noble. Thanks so much for stopping by and happy reading. :)

  1. You've done a fantastic job using the situation to really capture his emotions. The entire snippet has a very organic feel and is a compelling read. Great job!

  2. Oh, that poor adorable man . . .

I can't wait to read this book, Siobhan---I have a week of vacation starting tomorrow morning, and this is going to be part of it!

  3. I enjoyed this snippet, his impatience and anxiety simply oozes out of him.

  4. Nice showing of his emotions. (And isn't it amazing how little things will get blown out of proportion when you're already in an emotional swirl?)

I'm not sure that I've ever seen an empty nurses's station though, unless there's a code that everyone responded to. Normally you can't even find a place to sit down at one, between the unit secretary, the charge nurse, nurses and nursing assistants trying to do their charting, doctors hogging up space...

  5. "Target acquired" is a great touch! Poor guy, hopefully he'll be able to relax when he finds her (but not tooooooo much ;)).

  6. Well done! You can tell exactly how he's feeling.

  7. Awww, this excerpt really got to me, you did such a wonderful job of conveying his emotions and of course I'm dying to find out what happens after he opens the door. Great snippet!

  8. I can definitely tell that's a guy's POV. :) Loved it and I need to know what happens when he walks in because he does walk in, right?!

  9. You definitely conveyed the emotion in that scene with visuals. Well done. I'm going to guess that if the nurse assigned to her isn't in the room there will be hell to pay as to where she is! :)
