Snippet Sunday - Not a Dragon's Standard Virgin - Finding Fantasy

Welcome to the Snippet Sunday and Happy Mother's Day for those celebrating! I am, so it may take me a while to get to all your blogs, but I will. :) Thank you so much for visiting. If you choose to comment today, I really appreciate it. Currently, the snippets are from my latest release, and while they aren't consecutive, they are in order within the story. You can read last week's snippet HERE.

Today, I'm offering a snippet from my new release available NOW entitled Not a Dragon's Standard Virgin. Woohoo! I'm so excited to share it with you. In this snippet, Jonarrion Swiftwind gets to meet the lovely lady he saw on the hill when he arrived and while she might be twitterpated over him, he's not unaffected by her presence either. But he's trying to play it cool.

Jon groaned and decided he’d have to do push-ups or maybe even stab himself with his dirk to get his body back into line. It’d been a long time since a female human had tempted him so, but something about Mistress Isabelle Andersen made him stand up and take notice. She had generous curves that enticed his hands to fondle, and glorious auburn hair he could fist in his pleasure. The light had reflected off the green-blue of her eyes, a color he’d only seen in necklaces from the world away west, and he’d been lost in their mesmerizing depths. They reminded him of a Faerie pool in the summer sunlight.
However, beneath the beauty he sensed fire and intelligence, like a wild falcon biding its time before its hood is removed. Her restlessness and discontent burned under her calm facade. He scented muted unhappiness from her, but strain showed around her eyes and mouth, a mouth meant for smiling. And other things.

Oh, he's definitely going to need his dirk ;) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writing Warrior list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Sarah Ballance, SJ Maylee, Goran Zidar, Karla Doyle, and A.S. Fenichel.

If you're interested in Not a Dragon's Standard Virgin, here is the cover and blurb:

Sacrificial virgins are so sixteenth century, but unless Isabelle finds a man to take her innocence, she’ll likely be next.

For Isabelle Andersen, being a virgin in a dragon-plagued Scottish village is dangerous. Potentially the next dragon sacrifice, Isabelle’s only solution is to lose her innocence, and fast. All she needs is one handsome stranger she can coax into bed, but Lochmore Cott doesn’t get much in the way of visitors.

Jonarrion Swiftwind has sworn off virgins. The last time he took one to his bed, his family paid the price for his lust at the hands of her demon-possessed father. He’s made it his mission to destroy all demons. Nothing distracts him from killing this demon until lovely Isabelle offers him tea. And her virginity.

Just one night of passion makes Jon realize he doesn’t want to let the independent beauty go. But will Isabelle accept him when she discovers the only real dragon in her village… is him?

Thanks for stopping by and happy reading! :)

  1. When a man resorts to his dirk, you know he's got it bad . . . Okay, that doesn't quite work, but you know what I mean. :)

    And he's certainly a goner!

  13. It's very clear how much of an impact she has on him. Your details on fantastic--particularly about the stress around her mouth. Those sort of details make the read so vivid.

  23. "He scented..." I think you meant he sensed. But I knew what you meant, just letting you know there's a typo. I'd like a description of the faerie pool so I can visualize it. Otherwise I just think night time and a pond.

    1. Nope, I meant "scented", Oto. He can smell her emotions being a dragon and all. Thanks for commenting. :)
