Mid Week Tease - A Hell Hound's Fire - A Watched Pot

Welcome to the Weird, the Wild, & the Wicked for this week's Mid Week Tease hosted by Sandra Bunino.

Authors: this is a great opportunity to spotlight a few lines or even a paragraph or two from a new release or backlisted title. Readers: you get to sample some delicious snippets! We’ll do our best to tease, titillate and tantalize you into the weekend.

My Mid Week Tease is from A Hell Hound's Fire, the first book in the Cloudburst Colorado Series. Alex MacLaren has been contracted to protect Sarah Flanagan and her son Liam from the demons after them. He's taken her to his place and is feeding her dinner. And a whole lot more. :)

He met her gaze and offered his best encouraging smile. Some of the tension left her expression and she tentatively smiled back at him, the hope in her gaze drawing him closer. Before he could think through his actions, he tilted his head and covered her lips with his.
Sarah stiffened with surprise, but with a moan of desperation, she opened her mouth and gave into his kiss. Hot, searing lust spiked through Alex as the taste warm, willing woman and frantic need hit his tongue. The scents of peat bogs and spring hyacinth flooded his nose, and he couldn’t stop from caressing her tongue with his.
Mine! Must protect. True Mate. Alex’s Brother surged forward and made him tighten his grip on the delicious woman in his arms. He wanted to question the “True Mate” bit, but lust, need, and her scent swamped his mind until emotion ruled him.
Alex growled and pressed Sarah up against the counter, one arm wrapped around her back, his other hand spearing through her silken ponytail. The auburn strands felt like satin rope and he tightened his fist, dragging her head back. She whimpered and her nails dug into his back through his shirt as she wrapped one leg around his thigh. She ground her mound against his rock-hard cock and he swore his eyes rolled back in his head.
Want. Want her now. True Mate. Tugging her head back again, he broke the kiss and licked her throat, lust demanding he mark her as his. He worked his hand between their bodies and stroked the crotch of her jeans, the heat and dampness there searing his fingers. Feral need exploded through him and the scent of her arousal insisted he mate with her immediately.
And he would have, except the pasta pot boiled over right beside them.
They broke apart, Alex scrambling to turn down the heat on the stove. His cock throbbed against the fly of his jeans, mourning the loss of Sarah’s warmth, but guilt hit him straight between the eyes. What the fuck am I doing?

#SnippetSunday - WIP - Dark and Stormy Night

Welcome to the Snippet Sunday on the Weird, the Wild, and the Wicked. Thank you so much for visiting. If you choose to comment today, I really appreciate it. Currently, the snippets are from a Work in Progress, the third story in the Cloudburst, Colorado series, and while they aren't consecutive, they are in order within the story. You can read the last snippet of The Beltane Witch HERE.

Today, I'm offering a snippet from the first chapter of The Cloudburst Coffee and Spa, a WIP in the Cloudburst Colorado series that deals with some of the darker kinks in love. Moira Callahan is only sixteen, but she's been having naughty thoughts about Aiden Westmorland, a distant family relative fostering with her family for the summer. Aiden is two years older and college bound, but they've connected on a deep level and have traded hot looks across the yard. This snippet is from the night he leaves and is probably NSFW. It's unedited, so please keep that in mind.

Moira returned to her bedroom and scooted over to the bedside table to switch off the light. As she passed her window, the lightning flashed again and she caught sight of something under the large Ponderosa pine in the yard. Wait, what was that? She paused and frowned into the slashing rainy dark.
Moira smelled the water as it pounded the window and the sharp ozone of burnt air from the lightning’s strike, but neither of those scents had her skin prickling or her nipples hardening again. She waited tensely for another flash, her breath sawing in and out of her chest in nervous excitement.
She thought her heart would explode and realized she held her breath, but she just couldn’t let it go. When the lightning finally granted her sight once more, she sighed explosively and gripped the windowsill until her hands cramped.
Aiden stood out there, under the Ponderosa, with his long, dark hair slicked from rain and sticking to his face and neck in wet tendrils. His wiry body flashed pale in the white of light, each muscle standing out in stark relief as he allowed the rain to bathe him. He had his head thrown back and one hand on his balls while his other hand stroked his dick in tight agony.

So much for getting away from her naughty thoughts of him. If you'd like to see a photo of the inspiration for Aiden, click HERE. :) There are several great authors on the Weekend Writing Warrior list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Anastasia Vitsky, SJ Maylee, Goran Zidar, Zee Monodee, and A.S. Fenichel.

Thanks so much for stopping by and happy reading. :)

Week 84 Winner

B.A. says: I chose this one because she managed to create a setting, a kick ass character, and a recognizable story in 250 words. I'd totally read this book. :D

The raucous crowd refused allaying. Demands of blood rose to screams for Jesse’s head as punishment for the crime. Six shots in the air from the judges’ gun got the crowd’s attention.

Jesse stared at his black clad executioner.

“Ya’ll know how this gon’ go, son?” drawled the old man as he holstered his weapon and glared at the crowd. Jesse glanced around and shrugged. Pinched and hungry faces stared back. With no money and no food, a grisly death rated high as entertainment.

“Yeah,” Jesse said weakly. “Stole water. Means the death penalty.”

The executioner mounted his horse and waved to the crowd. They roared back. The judge took out his gun again.

Silence.

“One question,” Jesse said. “Do I get a head start?”

Laughter filled the air. The executioner shrugged and nodded.

The judge walked over and took off Jesse’s chains. “I’m sorry, son,” he said.

“Don’t be,” Jesse said. “I got him right where I want him.”

Confused, the judge stumbled back. Jesse turned to the city gate. He took a deep breath then sprinted for the wilderness.

Hoof beats drew closer.

Jesse ran harder. He stopped dead at a scrub of brush. Turning back, he smiled as a sniper’s shot picked the executioner out of the saddle.

“How much this one worth?” asked his partner, Grant, from the brush.

“Two mil. Dead or alive.”

“Let’s go home,” Grant said. “We can finally retire.”

“And do what?” Jesse asked.

Grant shrugged.

“Let’s go home,” Jesse laughed.

Mid Week Tease - Hunting for Solace

Welcome to the Weird, the Wild, & the Wicked for this week's Mid Week Tease hosted by Sandra Bunino.

Authors: this is a great opportunity to spotlight a few lines or even a paragraph or two from a new release or backlisted title. Readers: you get to sample some delicious snippets! We’ll do our best to tease, titillate and tantalize you into the weekend.

My Mid Week Tease is from Not a Dragon's Standard Virgin. Jonarrion is a demonhunter, but isn't adverse to a little recreation on his travels. He just has one rule. No virgins. :)

Jonarrion Swiftwind took a deep breath of the early spring wind and caught the rancidness of a demon’s decay, just as he’d suspected. The stories coming out of this part of the human country of Scotland had suggested demon activity, but the scent on the wind confirmed it. He narrowed his eyes and grimaced a silent snarl as he resumed his walking pace down the road toward the little village of Lochmore Cott.
Bloody bastard is here, all right. I’ll have to permanently relocate him.
Feral excitement shot through his veins. He looked forward to the fight. Trudging through the frozen lands of the Scottish clans had never been his favorite activity. Daft Scots are crazy to live where it’s so damn cold. The Irish are far more sensible.
Jonarrion reached the bend in the road leading away from the Loch and slowed, scenting something sweet on the wind. He raised his gaze to a hillock above the Loch and scanned the trees, searching for the beguiling scent. When he saw the lass, he stumbled to a stop, transfixed.
She was lovely and ethereal, like the Fae, though she had an earthiness grounding her. Deep auburn hair escaped the tight hold of the shawl wrapped around her head, and pale skin glowed gently in the fitful light of the moon. She stood taller than most lassies he’d seen, and generous curves filled out her clothes.
That lass would pleasure any male, and carry his progeny without trouble. Jonarrion’s cock responded by hardening to the thought of sliding into her heat. He could picture her glossy auburn hair draping across the bedding while he pounded into her.
A panicked warning screamed through his mind, and his blood froze despite the girl’s beauty in the moonlight. His cockstand shriveled like a kick in the balls. It’d been fifty years since he’d last slept with an unbedded human female, with disastrous results.
Aye, now your sister-by-law is dead, your brother is a widower, and you roam the world, killing demons and seeking forgiveness. How is that working for you? He never stayed anywhere too long, and no matter how much he wished for a family of his own, he couldn’t allow himself such pleasure when he’d destroyed his brother’s happiness.

David A. Ludwig | @DavidALudwig
Cara says: I enjoyed the hints of epic fantasy unfolding and the pair of unlikely friends in Craig the warrior and Peter the priest.

Veronica Jordan | @RevolutionaryVJ
Cara says: A quiet, well-written story leading to an unexpected (but relevant to many writers, I’m sure) reveal at the end.

Week 83 Winner

Cara says: Keeping 250 words or less coherent and engaging is always a challenge. Silver, your story caught my attention with clean, clear writing and an amusing set up that carried through to the end. Ariel’s mischievous character came through strongest, but Sade sure makes an entrance. Now I wonder what Caleb will do once he’s free, lol. These three sound like quite the trio of trouble. :)

Ariel gripped the leash tighter, his fae strength tested by the furry fury attempting to twist free. A muzzle kept Caleb from biting but didn’t silence his angry growls and whines.

The veterinarian returned with a large syringe and a small glass ampule.

Caleb’s scrabbling paws and growls turned frantic.

“Easy, boy,” the vet soothed as he eyed the huge animal with some distrust. “I have to admit he’s the biggest Siberian Husky I’ve ever seen.”

Ari smiled and pushed his magic gently toward the doctor. “He probably has some wolf in his DNA somewhere.” He watched the human vet prepare the injection while doing his utmost to hide the smile threatening to flood the room with glee.

“Will the rabies shot hurt him?”

The vet shook his head and smiled. “Not at all. In and out with a quick swipe of alcohol.” The man grabbed a fold of Caleb’s fur and was about to slide the needle in when the door banged open.

“What the fuck?” One very angry FBI agent stood in the door, hand on her weapon, her green eyes glittering like shards of broken glass under the noon sun. “Back away, Doctor.”

“I beg your pardon.”

“That’s not a dog, Doctor.”

He looked confused. “Of course it’s a dog.”

“No sir. That’s one very pissed off werewolf.” Sade glared at the fae. “Ari, you are such a jerk. Soon as the fairy dust wears off, you’re all Caleb’s.”

Ariel gulped. “Do I get a head start?”

Lovestruck Giveaway Hop - Swoon-worthy Heroes

Welcome to the Weird, the Wild, & the Wicked for the Lovestruck Giveaway Hop. I think I get the every time I come up with a new story idea because there's a hero (and a heroine) who I love, and want to know more about, and ultimately, want to torture until they get their HEA. Authors are an odd breed because we LOVE our characters, but we push and torture and beat them up so by the time they get what they deserve, they've been put through the ringer. But we love them all the same.

Many of my heroes come to me in dreams and give me a whole backstory with which to work. Darius Winterbourne, the hero of The Beltane Witch, did that to me. He came with laughing eyes edged with crow's feet, great broad shoulders wide enough to carry a large sword, and an arrogant confidence  which made me want to alternately smack him or snuggle with him. He also came with a recognizable face.

Sean Bean as Boromir from LoTR
Yes, he looked exactly like Sean Bean as Boromir from Lord of the Rings, complete with fancy over-tunic and hooded cloak. What I loved most about Darius was his relative fragility and strength. He'd been doing his job a long time and gotten so good at it, nothing challenged him anymore, and he'd grown jaded. Until he meets Sabrina Foxglove. In my dream, it was me, but the combination of confidence and strength mixed with flaws and hidden vulnerability sucked me in and had me smitten.

Here's an excerpt of The Beltane Witch from Darius's POV.

Skating turned out to be a comedy of errors and Darius found it easiest to watch Sabrina and her children from the edges of the rink. He took pleasure in exchanging the hideous skates for his comfortable boots. Bloody awful things. Holly and Tansy were masters at the sport and Darius grudgingly admitted admiration for their coordination. Sabrina floated like an angel across the wooden floor and he caught himself gaping like a fool.
Sabrina’s mahogany brown hair waved behind her in a silken tail, a few wisps escaping the band holding it at the nape of her neck. He knew the softness of those tresses and his fingers ached to trail through them again. When had she become more beautiful than most of the Fae lasses with whom he’d dallied? She didn’t have their willowy physique, her beauty more grounded in an earthy solidity he preferred. He liked her strength and resourcefulness as well as her unwillingness to bow to every one of his wishes. She represented a challenge and it interested him far more than a biddable female.
Watching her laugh with her children struck a chord in his chest and he rubbed a hand over his heart with a groan. An odd mixture of yearning and hope bloomed inside, followed swiftly by fear and despair. When had he started wanting a family? Why did this little witch affect him so strongly? Her very humanity made it impossible for them to be together. He’d outlive her by centuries—he already had—and he had his duty to the Sidhe Summer Court. He couldn’t set it all aside for one human witch.
But the yearning refused to abate when Sabrina and her daughters rolled off the rink’s floor, laughing and chattering about how fast they could go. Sabrina’s eyes sparkled with love and joy for her children, and Darius wished she’d look at him with such emotions.
Like she did in my dream. He kept strong control over his wayward cock and hoped his expression remained relaxed and pleasant.
“Mom, can we get some hot cocoa and cinnamon buns afterwards?” Tansy looked up hopefully as she worked on removing her skates.
“I don’t know.”
“Pleeeese?” Holly piped up. She tried to jump up and down, but her skates shot her feet out from under her and she toppled backwards with a frightened squeak.
“Steady, Miss Holly.” Darius caught her and cradled her in his arms. A sudden protective instinct gripped him and he squeezed her gently. “It seems wiser to take your skates off first then you may jump.”
“Okay. Thank you.” Holly’s politeness always surprised him. He’d never encountered such good-natured children.
We were never so polite until after Father left.
The old anger tried to rise again, but he stuffed it away. Holly’s and Tansy’s father had run out on them as well and he’d be damned before he left them in the lurch.
What am I thinking? I won’t be here past Beltane. But he wanted to stay for more than just their mother’s hot body. He wanted to stay to teach them about… What? What do you know more than Courtly intrigue and manipulation? He shoved the snarky voice away. He wanted to stay with Sabrina and help her raise her children. He had no idea where the certainty came from, but it left a warm spot in his chest and he smiled as he helped Holly sit down. “Would you like some help with your laces?”

See? So strong, and yet so vulnerable and lovable. Sigh...

Mid Week Tease - Jeff's Mistake

Welcome to the Weird, the Wild, & the Wicked for this week's Mid Week Tease hosted by Sandra Bunino.

Authors: this is a great opportunity to spotlight a few lines or even a paragraph or two from a new release or backlisted title. Readers: you get to sample some delicious snippets! We’ll do our best to tease, titillate and tantalize you into the weekend.

My Mid Week Tease is from Queen Bitch of the Callowwood Pack. Jeff thinks because he's the Alpha-heir-to-be, anything goes, even with Luna candidate, Julianna. She has a very different perspective. :)

He yelped as Julianna stomped down on his instep, twisting in his arms. Then she shoved his shoulders back against the wall and slammed her knee into his groin. He collapsed, panting and groaning, when the irresistible scent of the desert rain penetrated her adrenaline rush.
Understanding dawned.
She’d just kneed Jeff Lightfoot in the balls! It would’ve been funny if she wasn’t so angry. His original grip had been sexually domineering, complete with raging hard-on.
“Jeff?” She grasped his shoulders. “What are you doing?”
“What the hell was that for?” he groaned, cupping his crotch protectively.
“Haven’t you learned never to grab a woman out of the darkness?” Julianna shook her head as some of her anger drained away. “I lived in the big city for a long time. More than one man tried to take me down. Are you okay?”
“No.” He sounded strangled, and she had to hide a smile. “Can’t breathe.”
“Sorry.”
“Damn, woman!”
“Damn, yourself! Why did you try to grab me?”
“I didn’t want you to leave yet,” he whispered as he slowly straightened up. His face looked a little gray, but it might have been the dim light. “I wanted to say a more private good-bye, but I think I’m only going to say good-bye to my balls. Shit!”
“I am sorry, even if I was defending myself.” She bit her bottom lip. “Do you want to sit down?”
He nodded, and she slid one arm around his waist, lowering him to the floor.
“Goddess above, you smell wonderful. How did you hide it for so long?” He dropped his head and nuzzled her neck and jawline as she sat beside him. Arousal pushed through her chagrin, tightening her nipples.
“I didn’t.” She snorted. “I threw myself at you for years, and you ignored me the whole time, remember?”

Pulling back, he panted, "I won't let him near you, I swear."

"I know. Please… help me forget," she pleaded, pulling him back down.

He kissed her leisurely, whispering, "Not allowed to forget this time."

"Josh," Bri gasped as he leaned down to kiss the tender flesh of her neck.
His hands slid up and down her sides, moving higher and higher until he reached the curve of her breasts. A deep moan spilled out when Josh finally brought them around to cup her mounds.

"Josh. Please, yes…" she whispered.

Josh traced his tongue over her throat, then to her ear, nipping at it lightly. Her breath caught when he plucked at first one, then the other nipple through the flimsy material of her gown. Her legs drew up around his waist, holding him more firmly to her. Josh continued to knead her flesh, his hands abruptly drifting downwards, leaving her feeling bereft. She groaned in disappointment.

Her moan turned into a gasp when he grabbed the hem of the nightie and yanked it up and off of her. Hooking his fingers into the cotton of her panties, he pulled back long enough to slide them down and off her legs before settling back into place. She now lay naked and exposed, and she reveled in the feel of his body on top of her. A small cry left her lips when he slipped a hand between her parted legs, his fingers stroking at her folds. It had been so long.

Feeling her ready for him seemed to snap his control and Josh abruptly sat up. He undid the button of his jeans, shoving them down his hips, taking his briefs with them. He knelt between her legs, bare as she, his shaft leaking as it stood at its full length. He had to be at least nine inches. Lying on top of her, he dipped his head, his hot breath on her breast. She moaned when his mouth claimed her erect nipple, and she shuddered, clutching him tighter when he closed over the small nub and began to suck, sending shock waves of pleasure and excitement rippling through her.

Her need for him grew when his hand found its way lower and he pressed against the wet folds of her pussy again, this time parting them and finding her swollen clit. Stroking her with his thumb, he slid two fingers inside of her.

She cried out his name, "Josh!"

"God, you're so wet. So ready for me already," he groaned, thrusting his fingers deep.

"Yes. Please, I'm so ready. Take me, now," she demanded. She couldn't stand it anymore, she needed him now.

"Yes. Now," he rasped and positioned himself and drove into her.

Bri screamed out in ecstasy as she came.

BONUS “DELETED SCENE”

Here is a scene I couldn’t keep between secondary characters Mel and Caleb. It gives a sneak peek as to why there is some tension between them:

“Why do you hate me?” Caleb’s gaze bore into her, and she felt it to the very depths of her soul. She resented that.
Mel tried to move again, but he blocked her way. Sighing in aggravation, she narrowed her eyes. “Why do you suddenly care?”
There had been a time where the very thought of surrendering herself to the arms of this cowboy had made her weak in the knees. That was before she saw him for who he truly was. Knew it wouldn’t be just him she gave herself to.
“I have always cared.” He shook his head, confusion marring his handsome features. “I just can’t work out what I did. What I said.”
His breath caught when Mel leant forward, bringing her lips to his ear. “Oh, you didn’t say anything, but Lisa was more than happy to share the details.” She felt a slither of satisfaction at his shocked expression. “You know, if you and Noah are going to play around, you might want to make sure the girls know to keep it a secret.”
He stuttered. “I…we…Mel, look—”
Refusing to give him anymore of her time, she shoved hard against his solid chest. In his surprise, he stumbled back, giving her the chance to side step him and move away. Just as she reached the front door, she threw an icy glare over her shoulder. “Oh, and you both may want to learn to lock a door. You never know who may stop by for a visit. It was quite a show.”

Thanks for stopping by and happy reading!
