Welcome to the Snippet Sunday on the Weird, the Wild, and the Wicked. Thank you so much for visiting. If you choose to comment today, I really appreciate it. Currently, the snippets are from a Work in Progress, the third story in the Cloudburst, Colorado series, and while they aren't consecutive, they are in order within the story. You can read last week's snippet HERE.
Today, I'm offering another snippet from the second chapter of The Cloudburst Coffee and Spa, a WIP in the Cloudburst Colorado series that deals with some of the darker kinks in love. Eighteen years have passed since Moira saw Aiden under the ponderosa, and now she helps her brother Steven run the family bar, The Cliffhanger. The snippet is unedited.
“Is Talia coming
in tonight?”
“No, I gave her
the night off.”
“What? Are you
crazy? It’s a Friday before St. Patrick’s Day. We need everyone here tonight.”
Steven huffed and puffed like a big Irish bear.
“She’s taking
her massage certification final. This is a big night for her. We’ll be fine.”
“I’ll call
Kallen and Kevin. Hopefully, Kallen won’t be covered in sawdust and Kevin can
scrub himself clean of horse.” Steven grimaced and picked up the phone.
“Good luck with
that.” Moira replaced the board and shrugged, dissatisfaction eating through
her gut.
“Hey, what is it
with you? You on the rag or something?”
“Wow, could you
be any more disgusting, Steven? It’s a wonder you don’t have a girlfriend with
that mouth of yours.”
He flipped her
off and turned back to the phone. Moira chaffed her arms and sniffed the air.
Beyond the scents of beer and furniture polish, she detected the scent of
storm, and excitement washed over her. Oh,
knock it off! He’s gone and he’s not coming back.
Aiden.
The summer
she’d truly been sixteen and never been kissed, at least not until he came
around. But he’d left that fall, two years older and college bound, and she
never saw him again.
What do you bet that's going to change? ;) If you'd like to see a photo of the inspiration for Aiden, click HERE. There are several great authors on the Weekend Writing Warrior list and in the Snippet Sunday Facebook group. A few of my favorites are Anastasia Vitsky, SJ Maylee, Gem Sivad, Goran Zidar, Zee Monodee, and Karla Doyle.
Thanks so much for stopping by and happy reading. :)
No bet! :D
ReplyDeleteBrothers, yeesh . . .
Oh, a lot is going on here, and I'm not sure which to comment on. The fact that someone was given the day off before St. Paddy's day caught me the most. I used to work as a bartender at an Irish pub, and had to work a St. Paddy's day. Good snippet!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the snippet and the banter between the siblings, and I want to know more about Aidan. :)
ReplyDelete"Beyond the scents of beer and furniture polish, she detected the scent of storm, and excitement washed over her." Great line! (And great foreshadowing?)
ReplyDeleteI love the mix of real everyday brother baloney and her longing for the one that got away. More please. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat banter between the sibs. I guess Aiden is standing behind her or something.
ReplyDeleteSixteen and never been kissed. Ah, those were the days. Of course she's exited about Aiden. There's a lot of unfinished business on her part.
ReplyDeleteGreat realism to the conversation! I enjoyed the details of the scents and sensations as well - terrific snippet!
ReplyDeleteBrothers. You captured that relationship!! And Aiden sounds like he took a piece of her heart 16 years before. Hope he plans on bringing it back with all of his own. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your characters--they're so real and pull my heart in different directions at once. :)
ReplyDeleteSo Aiden might be coming back. I wonder if it's too late already.
