5 Questions of a Paranormal and Science Fiction Romance Author, Kris Norris

Welcome back to the Weird, the Wild, and the Wicked. Today I have the honor of hosting paranormal and science fiction romance author Kris Norris with her newest release Between the Veils: After Dark! I met Kris at Authors After Dark 2012 in New Orleans, which is apropos because Between the Veils: After Dark takes place in New Orleans. Kris is an amazing woman, half author, half superhero (she flies helicopters! SQUEEEE!) and her storytelling style grabs you from the very beginning and holds on until the final word. Ms. Norris is graciously offering an e-copy of her newest release After Dark to a lucky commenter.

Welcome, Kris. Thank you for being with me today.

Now it’s my turn to Squeee! I just think it’s amazing that we met in New Orleans and it felt like we’d known each other forever…and since you’re an honorary Canadian, (yes, folks, she speaks my language, eh J) I’m thrilled to be here. Now brace yourselves, I tend to be…chatty.

You, chatty? Nah! LOL What started you on the path to becoming a romance author (since you already did something so cool like flying helicopters)?

Ah yes, why the sudden career shift. I know it sounds as if being a helicopter pilot would be the ultimate job, but…I’ll confess. I had kids. While I loved flying, pregnancy kind of sidelines you for a while and after having three fairly close together, it became evident that I needed to consider a different career path, at least for the time being. I know this might come as a shock, but…flying isn’t a 9 to 5 job! And one that’s hard when you have small kids.
So…I had this story idea running around in my head. One day I decided to try writing it down. It was on and off for a few years, yes years…having three young kids doesn’t give you a lot of spare time…then I finally finished it. But…I didn’t actually put that story out there. I wrote another, then another—fairly quickly—and those were the two I got published pretty fast. Deadly Vision was accepted a few months later by Total-e-Bound and Checkmate by Resplendence. And that first book…it’s Hard Target, which came out last year with Resplendence (and the female lead is a helicopter pilot turned guide…think there’s any of me in there?).

Can I just say that I love love love being a writer…and the main reason…I love being able to imagine I have different jobs, lol. I’ve had a number of ‘jobs’ over the past 20 years (helicopter pilot, I was in the military…yeah, I know…boat captain, 911 dispatcher) all of which tells you I like trying different things (that or that I can’t stick to anything for long, lol). Writing allows me to pretend I do different things, though I confess I tend to write about the stuff I’ve done already, lol…and you can see that’s definitely varied.

Woot! Hard Target is next on my TBR list! :D Congratulations on your recent release of After Dark. Introduce us to the main characters and premise of your story.

I have to say, the hero in this story is one of my favourites. Why? Because he starts off as an asshole. Yup, my heroine has him pegged…arrogant asshole. I actually wasn’t going to have Avery Smith as the main character, but then while writing Chapter One, the damn guy popped in out of nowhere and saved Temperance (my leading lady). It was like…wow, I didn’t know he was going to do that…damn, this means redemption. But I’m glad he did because I think they’re well suited. Writing their dialogue was way too much fun.

Oh, right, you’d asked about the premise of the story. See, I have ADS…attention deficit squirrel. The premise is simple. Temperance Dunnigan and Avery Smith are paranormal investigators. Avery, being independently wealthy, has arranged for a weeklong retreat in New Orleans for what everyone else thinks is a regular ghost hunting expedition. But, it turns out there’s something much more sinister going on…and in true fashion, Temperance walks straight into the middle of it and finds herself targeted by a demon. It then becomes a race to discover the truth behind the demon and how they can stop it. Oh and some hot loving just might happen along the way, wink, wink.

I still have my fan from NOLA. I'll be using it for this. Did anything in particular inspire this story?

This was actually inspired by a blog post I wrote. As part of being a featured author at AAD NOLA, there were a number of promo opportunities, and on one blog, we were asked to do either an interview or a story behind one of our characters, who was either from or worked in New Orleans. Since I didn’t have any characters that fit that bill already in existence (other than Kyle from Hard Target, but his views on NOLA weren’t exactly good ones, lol), I decided to write the first chapter of a story, which would be based in New Orleans. From that, Chapter One of After Dark was born…and I have to say it hasn’t changed much at all from the original post. Then, when discussing the book idea with my editor, we decided that it warranted a series and that the names of all the books would correspond with a particular time…this one After Dark, lol.

Okay, I just have to know. What got you into flying helicopters (and can you teach me how :D)?

I actually started off flying small planes when I was 16 (a family friend got me hooked with trips in his plane)…and I honestly thought that would be my career path of choice. I chose helicopters because there’s just something incredible about hovering. It might sound crazy, but holding this magnificent machine stationary above the ground…yeah, it’s sexy. And I guarantee you that once you get a taste of it, you never want to go back to planes. Hell, I’d take a chopper over a jet any day. And yes, I could teach you. Much of my time as a pilot was as an instructor…so I got paid to have people try to kill me… cause yeah, learning to fly choppers is pretty damn hard—way harder than planes.

Unfortunately, being a helicopter pilot is not an easy road for a mother…shifts take you away from home for months at a time and even if you get a job where you don’t travel, the hours are ridiculous. So I had to make a decision, and fortunately, I found something just as amazing as flying…writing. And while I miss it, my kids are so worth being around to see grow up…wouldn’t change it for anything.

What other projects are on the horizon for you that we’re likely to see?

I seem to be spreading myself a bit thin, lol…as I have a lot projects in the works.

I’ll be finishing this series… Between the Veils. The next book, High Noon, is due out late October (bearing any schedule changes, lol) then the other two (4 in total) by early 2013.

I’m also halfway done my next ‘Til Death book… the third in the series, which will complete it. Partway in on the next Dark Prophecy book, also book 3, and I have a zombie series I’ve started…oh, and don’t forget, when the zombie apocalypse happens, you’ll want to head north… to Canada, eh. That cold has got to slow them down with parts freezing and falling off…just saying.

Freeze them all! :D Thank you for joining me today, Kris, and we look forward to all your upcoming releases!

Woo hoo. I had a blast. Thanks for inviting me (like I gave her a choice, folks, lol) You know us Canadians are secretly planning an invasion, so this is all part of the infiltration…muhaw. (waves hand in the air) These are not the droids you’re looking for and resistance is futile. (yes, I’m a sci-fi girl at heart)

Kris Norris is graciously offering an e-copy of Between the Veils: After Dark to one lucky commenter. To win a copy of Between the Veils: After Dark, just leave a comment with your views on ghosts…are you a believer, non-believer or somewhere between? Oh, and if you’ve had any ghostly encounters, feel free to tell me… I love the paranormal and hearing about personal experiences with spirits. Leave a valid email address or Twitter handle with your comment so we can notify you when you win. The contest ends at 8:00 pm PDT on Thursday, August 30th. EXCERPT of Between the Veils: After Dark:

Avery pulled into the hotel parking lot, shoving his car into first gear as he yanked on the parking brake. He didn’t miss the loud pounding of his heart in his head or the way his hands trembled on the stick. He could still hear the bellowing voice of the demon and feel the searing heat it had directed at Temperance. God, if he hadn’t learned of her plans and headed for the cemetery...
He glanced over at her, watching as she stared out the window. She seemed lost in thought, her deep blue eyes reflected in the glass. He’d never realized how beautiful she was, her unruly hair hanging in a tangle of curls around her face, her pale skin hued with a deep pink blush. Her worn sweater hugged her curves, accentuating pert breasts and a lean waist. And her jeans—fuck, they skimmed over an ass better than any fantasy he’d ever imagined. She wasn’t skinny, but firm and athletic, with a strength that had surprised him. Being several inches taller than her, he’d expected to have to drag her behind him when they’d run down the aisle between the tombs, but she’d matched his every step, nearly beating him to his car.
Avery sighed and ran a shaky hand through his hair. He wasn’t quite prepared for the sudden shift of his feelings toward her, not that he had any real idea how he felt. All he knew was that he wasn’t ready to let her out of his sight just yet.
Temperance turned toward the windshield, startling when she realized they’d stopped. She looked over at him, those perfectly sculpted lips pursed into the cutest damn pout he’d ever seen. They were all pink and shiny, and he wanted nothing more than to sink his hand into her tousled hair and taste that smooth skin with his tongue. His cock jerked in his pants, and he cursed the cruel humor in the situation. He’d invited her because of her skill. Because she was the one investigator who showed true talent and a natural chemistry for uncovering the paranormal.
He’d had absolutely no attraction to her, until she’d shown up on his doorstep, bag hooked over her shoulders, a hesitant smile on her face. He knew what she thought of him...that he was nothing more than a rich, arrogant prick who’d used his money to further his career. But the fact she’d still agreed to be part of the team had told him everything he’d needed to know about her. She was here to hone her craft, plain and simple. And he’d been more than happy to keep it that way...at least that’s what he’d thought.
Then she’d smiled, and his damn heart had done a somersault in his chest. He’d found himself staring at her. Watching her work, hell, watching her eat. Every movement, every small gesture was like a caress to his body, and he’d spent the better part of the past twenty-four hours cursing his ever-present hard-on...just like now.
Temperance looked away for a moment then sighed, glancing back at him. “I suppose I owe you an apology.”
He raised an eyebrow. That wasn’t what he’d been expecting, and he couldn’t help but be intrigued by the unusual comment. “What for?”
Her gaze shifted before she made direct eye contact. “I had you pegged as the kind of guy who only saved his own ass.”
“And not those of my guests?”

A hint of a smile touched her mouth. “Exactly.”

He chuckled. “You know, Temperance, calling me a self-centered ass isn’t really an apology.”

Her smile widened. “I never called you an ass.”

“Not to my face.” He resisted winking at her. “You really should be more careful about talking on your cell around here. The walls inside are obnoxiously thin.”

Her eyes widened, but she didn’t flinch as she continued to watch him. “And your reputation precedes you.”

“You can’t believe everything you see on television.”

“So you’re telling me you’re not an arrogant ass?”

He flashed her a genuine smile. “Guess you’ll just have to wait and find that out for yourself...if you manage to stay alive long enough.”

Thank you so much for stopping by and don't forget to leave Kris a comment to win. Happy reading. :)

5 Questions of a Paranormal and Contemporary Erotic Romance Author

Welcome back to the Weird, the Wild, and the Wicked. Today I have the honor of hosting paranormal and contemporary erotic romance author Lydia Michaels with a new release through Siren Publishing. She shares my love of 'pushing her characters through an evolution of emotion by creating real life challenges any hero or heroine worth their salt could overcome'. I couldn’t agree more.

Welcome, Lydia. Thank you for being with me today.

So glad to be here. :)

What started you on the path to becoming an erotic romance author?

I make it no secret that I am dyslexic.  As such, I have always struggled with reading.  It wasn’t until I picked up a romance novel in 2006 that I realized how much fun reading can be when you love the subject.  Within one book my entire perspective of literature changed.  I went from reading 4 books in twenty five years to reading 200 books in one year.  Then I discovered erotica and oh my…  I realized I definitely preferred romance novels with open door policies, but it was a requirement that my erotica not be short on plot.  There is nothing better to me than finding a meaty, full length erotic novel that is so hot it could stand alone without the sex…but includes the sex all the same.  As much as I love the heat of erotica, I believe it is the love-laced-plot that makes our favorite stories memorable.  This combination of lengthy, descriptive, intricate plots and erotic love scenes is not always easy to find.  I longed for those books with haunting characters, psychological depth, and heart palpitating intimacy.  It occurred to me that I may not be the only reader out there searching for erotica with some extra length.  So I decided to write stories centered on love, rich with plot, maintaining a standard of beauty within descriptions, and sensuality levels through the roof.

Congratulations on your recent release on Calling For a Miracle with Siren Publishing. Introduce us to the main characters and premise of your story.

Calling for a Miracle is the second book in the series The Order of Vampyres.  The Order is made up of nine immortal families all living together on a farm in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  Their privacy, as vampyres, is paramount.  That is why they have lived the last three and a half centuries as Amish. Called to Order, the first book of The Order of Vampyres, introduces readers to the laws of The Order when Adam Hartzler is called to his true mate and his mate is unexpectedly called to another.  There can only be one true mate for every immortal, a lesson the Hartzler family is learning quite well.

In Calling for a Miracle {Book 2}, Larissa Hartzler, Adam’s sister, has fled the farm to escape her oppressive marriage to Silus Hostetler. Larissa is not Silus’s true mate, yet he treats her as his property.  However, when Silus approaches the bishop about his wife’s insolence, the bishop declares that he will find Silus’s missing wife.  The last thing Larissa expexts, while hiding amongst the modern English, is a visit from Bishop Eleazar King, the most powerful immortal of The Order, especially once she learns that he has no intentions of returning her to her husband.

Did anything in particular inspire this story?

For years I played with various foundations for a vampire series. I wanted something believable. My inspiration came to me one February evening while sitting outside a cottage in Lancaster.  It was cold and dark, quiet except for the sound of four wheelers downshifting in the distance.  There had been an eerie mist that night, drawing a distinct contrast between the boisterous merriment taking place inside the charming little cottage and what lay just past the front door where I was keeping a friend company on the porch. Our conversation lulled when suddenly a phantom click-clack echoed in the near distance.  We silently stared into the fog, blind as to what lay two feet beyond the porch steps.

We soon recognized the slow cadence as an approaching Amish buggy.  As the horse broke through the thick murkiness his breath billowed before him in twin puffs of hot vapor.  The heavy carriage trailed slowly behind the sweaty mount, its spindled wheels creaking with each turn.  It was difficult to make out the vehicle on such a dark night, but as it passed we somehow managed to see the face staring back at us from within.  Sometimes our mouth moves before our mind can even process our subconscious thoughts.  That’s what happened in that moment.  I looked at those unblinking eyes, watching us through the fog just as we watched them pass by, and heard myself whisper, “What if the Amish were really vampires?”  It was then that my stories were born.

What made you choose the Amish culture as the backdrop for your vampyres?

It amazes me, that with all of the technologies of today, that a culture can still exist without the use of electricity and automobiles.  I find their primitive ways simplistic and beautiful, possessing a charm our rushed day to day lives seem to lack.  It is a wonder to me, how a place so different can exist right in the middle of everything so ordinary.  It is as if the Amish move amongst us so quietly they are hardly seen…much like vampyres would hope to be.

What other projects are on the horizon for you that we’re likely to see?

Currently I am writing Destiny Calls {Book 3} The Order of Vampyres.  I have also just finished a book titled Sacred Waters which is one of the most romantic stories I have ever penned. It is the first in a Irish series called McCullough Mountain.  I am also working on an erotic novel called Breaking Perfect, which is pushing me further than I have ever dared to go with my erotic writing.  Breaking Perfect will definitely include some serious warning labels on the cover.  I have a few other projects as well, but they are still under wraps.  For the most up to date information and sneak peeks at my works in progress, find me on Facebook or visit my webpage at www.lydiamichaels.org

Thank you for joining me today, Lydia, and we look forward to all your upcoming releases!

Thank you so much for having me!

BLURB

Isolated in the quiet hills of Pennsylvania is an Amish order unlike any other - they are vampyre.

After fleeing her oppressive marriage, Larissa Hartzler will give herself to no man, but Bishop Eleazar King has other plans. Eleazar is appalled when he discovers the always dutiful Larissa working in an English house of sin.

As the most respected immortal of The Order, Eleazar has always maintained unwavering control, but everything changes once he is called. His long standing position of authority is threatened when his need for his mate takes hold. There is nothing that will keep him from possessing the virginal Larissa as his mate. Not even her husband. Larissa's fear of being found by Bishop King transforms into confusion when she learns he is her mate. Five times his minor and broken on so many emotional levels, Larissa knows she will be an inadequate mate for Eleazar. With gentle patience he begins to teach her what her husband never did, and slowly awakens Larissa's desires.

EXCERPT

“No.” He heard himself say under his breath. She turned and his greatest fears were realized. There, dancing like a common harlot upon this stage of ill repute, was his charge.
He stood so fast the chair he had been occupying crashed backward to the ground. His jaw clenched and his nostrils flared. Barely containing his rage, he turned to the men in the bar and sent out a mental command. At once, every patron lowered their eyes and tilted their heads away from the stage. Apparently undeterred by her audience’s sudden lack of interest, Larissa danced on. It was as if she could not see the crowd that watched her so avidly with eyes full of lust and minds full of ignominious thoughts.
She danced on, her hips swaying and undulating, mimicking the intimate motions that should be shared only by man and wife. He was ashamed of her.
Her fingers began to work at the knot of the tie. Her left hand worked up and down the narrow fabric. Her actions had somehow stimulated an image of his very own anatomy, her hands working his flesh until he swelled to a point of pain that would be eased only by plunging into her warmth. Dear God, she had to be stopped. Looking back one last time at the practically sleeping crowd, satisfied no eyes were on the stage, he heard the tug of fabric and ping of little buttons across the stage under the blare of music. He turned, lightning fast, and leapt onto the stage.
Larissa stumbled back in her chair and gasped. She grew pie eyed with fear and he smiled, knowing she understood they would be returning to their home that night.
“Bishop King,” she breathed and he sensed her frantically considering ways to escape him.
“Go ahead, Larissa, run.”
She stood and bolted to the door at the back of the stage with immortal speed. He had reached the door first. His chest swelled at the rush of adrenaline from toying with her. Some deep-seeded instinct wanted to play and chase her. His heart pounded at some long-forgotten emotion he was suddenly experiencing. Arousal.
She stood before him, dark hair tousled around her oval face, eyes wide, and lips parted as she caught her breath. Her shirt, no longer in possession of buttons, gaped open, exposing the valley between her full breasts, the length of her long, trim torso, and her narrow hips covered in black silk that formed a V above her thighs. He looked into her eyes and suffered a jolt of déjà vu as if he had stared into those eyes a thousand times before.
“Your husband has been worried about you, Larissa,” he said and twitched at the shock of irritation he felt at mentioning her husband. “It’s time to return to your home and duties.”
“I’m not going with you,” she dared, but he could sense the uncertainty of her words.
He reached forward in an almost fatherly manner and pulled the edges of her shirt together. “You have had your fun with the English and now it is time to come home.”
“I’ll only leave again. I will not live out my eternity as only Silus Hostetler’s quiet, forgotten wife.”
Good! He heard his inner voice proclaim. He didn’t understand the satisfaction he felt over her reluctance to return peacefully to her husband. He kept his confused musings to himself and said, “Be that as it may, I have a duty to return you to your family.” She was trembling. Her fear of returning to their home did not make sense to him. Larissa had been a happy child on the farm, always pleasant, never complaining. What was she so afraid of?
“Come with me now, child.”
“And if I say no?” she asked.
“We both know your objections will only take you so far. You are no match for me. You do not belong here in the English world. You certainly do not belong here on this stage. If you fight me, it will only make me more determined to have my way. Come with me easily and I shall discuss with your husband the severity of you atonement for running from him.”
“I told you, I would only run again. I will not go back to the life I had there.”
“And what of your family? Do you plan on living out your immortal existence with never seeing your parents or brothers or little Grace again?”
“I see my brother now.”
He pressed his lips together. “Yes, Cain would be the one to find you and turn his back on his order by not informing them of your whereabouts.”
“Cain is loyal to his family before all else.”
“How noble. Now, if you will come with me. We can gather your belongings and be on our way.”
“No.”
His eyebrows slowly rose. “No?”
“No.”
He clucked his tongue and shook his head. “How disappointing. Very well.” Eleazar pressed into her thoughts, intending to force her mind into an unconscious state, but the action seemed to hit a wall. He grunted at the force of the energy pressing between them like two mutual sides of a magnet. His brow creased. Did she know she was somehow blocking him? A female, four centuries, almost five his minor, should not have the power to block him. He tried again.
This time he watched as Larissa gritted her teeth and growled, “I said no!”
The compulsion to sleep was suddenly catapulted back at him. He felt a sudden fog of peace settle over him, cloaking all sound. He vaguely registered the look of shock on Larissa’s face. He reached for her but his movements were slow and sluggish. She stepped out of his grip. Her image swirled and dipped. He was all of the sudden looking up at her rather than down. She had lovely thighs, sweet and flush with soft muscles. His vision blurred. Larissa looked at him one last time, confused and panicked, then ran out of his peripheral. Next thing Eleazar knew everything went dark.

Interview with Arden Windham from Far From the Usual by Avril Ashton

Good morning. Today I'm turning the Weird, the Wild, & the Wicked over to multipublished author Avril Ashton while I feverishly edit a MS and attend to some SEALS - Yeah, yeah, guys! Wheels up in two minutes. I know! I'm coming! - So, take a moment and enjoy Avril and the heroine from her latest release, Far From the Usual, out now from Evernight Publishing. Check out the hot cover!

Yeah, all right! SEALs calling. I'm outta here. Take it away, Avril. :)

At the behest of author Siobhan Muir, I invited Arden Windham, heroine of Far From the Usual, to sit down with me for a chat. Arden readily agreed and she came in wearing a white tank top, torn denims, and black Converse high-tops. Her hair was pulled into a messy ponytail. Dark glasses covered her eyes, but she removed them, peering across the table at me as she sipped her coffee.

Av: Arden, thanks for agreeing to sit with me for a few. I understand you’re busy.
Arden shrugs: It’s cool
Av: Tell us a bit about you. Loving your name.
Arden grins: Thanks. I was named after my father. His name is Dennis.
Av: You and your father have a very…strained relationship. Do readers get to see you resolve some of your issues?
Arden: That’ll be giving stuff away, right? Readers will have to…read…to find out.
Av: Can you at least let us know if your issues have been resolved. Good or bad?
Arden: I can’t.
Av: Can’t what?
Arden: Can’t let you know. *she waves a hand* Next question.
Av: Ah, talk about your best friend Indy
Arden: What about her?
Av: Are you two still close?
Arden: We are
Av: Do you think she should get her own story?
Arden laughs: Hell yeah! Payback is a bitch.
Av: That it is. Are you ready to talk about you and Cam?
Arden squares her shoulders: As ready as I’ll ever be.
Av: What was your first impression of him?
Arden: He came across as really, really cold. And mute. Cause the bastard rarely spoke, at least to me.
Av: But you found him attractive?
Arden: Who told you that?
Av: That’s a question.
Arden: I didn’t like him. Hell, sometimes I still don’t.
Av: How’s the relationship between the families?
Arden: In one word? Fucked.
Av: Do you care one way or the other? Does it affect your life?
Arden: I try not to let it. It’s not easy, but I’ll be damned if others will dictate my happiness or who I love.
Av: Does that mean you love Cam?
Arden: Damn woman, read the freaking book!

FAR FROM THE USUAL BLURB: He’s her ex’s brother, yet Arden Windham aches to be in Cam Mercer’s arms. The man is rude and obnoxious, his blue eyes cold and unfeeling, but he makes her body melt. Being with ex-con Cam is nowhere in her plans, not if she wants the affection she’s worked so hard to gain from her overbearing father. Still, Cam’s touch is unlike anything she’s ever felt and Arden finds herself having to choose between her wants and her needs.
Cameron Mercer is his family’s black sheep, a man apart. For six months he watched Arden waste her time with his twin and now she’s free, he’s not waiting another minute. He’s on a campaign to get her off the tight rope she’s been walking. There’s a rebel behind that smooth façade and he’s on a mission to set Arden free. Too bad she insists on putting up a fight.

Excerpt

Arden held herself upright with her hip propped against her car as she waited for Indy to come out from the bar. Cam left her standing in the darkness, getting into his truck and driving off while she struggled to accept the ramifications of what she’d done.
She promised her father she’d be on her best behavior and this so wasn’t it. He’d have a coronary if he ever found out about this. Let’s not forget, too, that Cam was Clark’s brother.
Brothers.
She tugged on the ends of her hair and shifted her weight from one foot to the other. The crotch of her thong was soaked through; her flesh felt swollen and extra sensitive. She needed Cam in the worst way and she just knew she’d end up doing all kinds of things she’d regret before the night was through.
“Hey.”
She looked up as Indy approached.
“Are you okay?” Indy eyed her up and down. “Did you get busy?”
Indy had been after her to make a move on Cam, pointedly ignoring Arden’s plea to go somewhere when she spotted his truck in the parking lot earlier.
“We didn’t.” She shook her head and got into the car. Buckling herself in, she laid her head back and sighed. “I’m fucked.”
Indy grunted as she got into the driver’s seat. “Not yet, you aren’t.”
“He’s not part of the plan, Indy.” She stared out the window. “No drama. The Mayor’s daughter can’t be caught fucking an ex-con.”
“So don’t get caught.” Indy touched her shoulder. “Look, have you questioned why your father put you on all these weird restrictions? Ever since you came here, you’ve been all uptight and buttoned up. Being the quiet, unassuming daughter isn’t your shtick.”
“But it has to be.” She’d been away from her father for far too long, she couldn’t bear to be apart anymore. “It’s been years since I’ve been in the same state as my dad. He asked me not to embarrass him, not to cause any scandals, and I refuse to.”
Indy frowned. “You and Cam getting your freak on isn’t the same as what happened with Justin. You didn’t know he was a scumbag drug dealer.”
Arden snorted. She always felt like such a fool when reminded of the man she’d loved, who she thought loved her. Turned out Justin was one of the biggest drug dealers on their New York college campus. Everyone knew, except her. And she’d been the fool who had to call her father up to be bailed out of jail for a crime she’d never even thought to commit.
“Cam.” She whispered his name. “He doesn’t even like me, he told me that. But I—”
“But you’d like to know what it feels like to have him blow your back out.”
Arden laughed. Indy had a way with words. “He would.”
“Yeah.”
They sat in silence, the possibilities swirling in her head.
“He’s Clark’s brother.”
“Clark’s your ex,” Indy reminded her. “And let’s face it, golden boy wasn’t always up on his game, was he?”
Arden had no complaints regarding sex with Clark; he’d been a generous lover. Never left her hanging, but didn’t have her swinging from the chandeliers, either. Their bedroom exploits had taken a hit the weeks leading up their break-up since he’d started working late hours on a new project.
He’d begun sleeping around and she hadn’t called him on it, she simply cut him off. Their relationship had been smooth sailing up to that point. No arguments and no big declarations of love. She’d cared about him in the beginning, liked that he was a good guy with a legit job and low-key personality. He didn’t demand anything she hadn’t been willing to give and maybe she’d been a fool in assuming that was what it took to build a life together.
She folded her hands in her lap. “Drive.”

Interview with Tegan Murin from Passion's Flight by Shannan Albright

Good morning. Yesterday, I was talking with my friend and fellow Las Vegas author Shannan Albright, and she told me the most amazing tale. I'd been bugging her to get me an interview with Tegan Murin, the enforcer from her recent release, Passion's Flight. Tegan is notoriously prickly, so she said she'd at least go talk to him to see if she could get anything more out of him to share. Below is the transcript of their talk.

I finally found The Asp Bar in the seedier part of Las Vegas. If not for this interview, I would have turned around and headed back as fast as my cowardly ass-end could go. Several blocks away from the Fremont Experience, the neighborhood in which the small bar sat was run down. Homes stood vacant with foreclosure stickers stuck to the doors and only a few were occupied, if all the old broken down cars littering the driveways and sidewalks were any indication. On one side stood an empty lot, chained and padlocked, filled with overgrown weeds and dirt, everything about this place was just as I wrote it.

Very surreal and a part of me wished I could take a moment more to investigate my surroundings further. Fortunately I’m smart enough to know how stupid that would be. Besides I had an interview to do which I was already late for.

I parked and locked my car, praying it would still be untouched when I came back out and hurried inside the bar. Again I was hit by a strong sense of Déjà vu. The bar was nearly empty, but then again the hour of day had a lot to do with that. Most of The Asp clientele were night dwellers, though I was surprised to find Mari behind the bar, her newly braided hair clinking with the swaying of her beaded hair. Her smile was warm, brown eyes lighting up with genuine pleasure as she moved toward me, leaving the bar. Now I’m short, standing at five foot three and rounded with lots of curves, yet next to this ancient vampire, I felt like a lumbering bull moose. Small boned, she stood the same height as I, but her body was leaner and more toned than mine could ever be.

Nope, I wasn’t jealous, really. Oh, hell maybe a little.

Without a word she led me to where Tegan waited with a scowl on his face. Even with the dark look the man was a walking sex ad. Could anyone be sexier? His gaze swept over me, bringing goose bumps up my whole body, and I knew without a shadow of a doubt very few females could refuse him anything.

As breathtaking as a fallen angel, his dark hair fell in dark waves past his broad shoulders framing his chiseled face. Green eyes snapped with irritation and I found myself swallowing nervously. With a weak smile, I slid into the booth and pulled out my pad and pen, feeling his gaze boring holes in me as I prepared for our interview.

Mari asked if we needed anything and I piped up with an Ice Tea, immediately regretting my decision as they both gave me a look that spoke volumes. Wimp, yeah, that’s me. Mari left us with a laugh and a shake of her head. Beads clattering off in the distance, guess that Ice Tea was a no-go.

“Um, sorry to be late, there is the usual traffic jam on the I-15,” I explained.

“There’s always a traffic snarl on I-15. You wanted this meet, so what do you want to know that I haven’t already given you?” Tegan got right to the point.

“Look, Tegan, just a few questions in your own words and I’ll be out of your hair, I promise.”

He studied me for a seconded before nodding his head in agreement. “Fine, let’s just be quick about this. Want to get back to Kyra and still have to prepare for patrol tonight.”

“How are Kyra and you doing?”

His whole body relaxed and a smile played over those sensual lips of his. Kyra was one lucky girl. “Great, couldn’t be happier except for the few times when I need to leave her at HQ, then I’m not quite so amiable.”

Oookay, moving on with the questions then. I looked down at my list and chose the next one. “How are you and your step-father getting along these days?”

“We’re getting there. I spent a long time hating the man so it’s going to take time to get past it all. Nicolai is a very patient and tenacious man, so we will get there.”

“What do you think of Marcus as the new Consortium’s leader?”

That brought a full out smile to his lips, transforming his already handsome face into a masterpiece of lethal beauty. “Out of everyone I have ever had the pleasure to serve under, Marcus Valerian was made for this position and I stand by him in this endeavor one hundred percent.”

“What part do you think you’ll play in the new world order?”

“As little as possible, if I have my way. Let’s face it, I’m not the kind of guy who is good at all the diplomacy crap. I’m more the guy who kicks ass and takes names.”

I bit back a chuckle. Knowing Tegan as well as I did, I could never see him being politically correct about anything. So yeah, he would be best behind the scenes, otherwise he may just cause an international incident.

“With Marcus and Tambra expecting twins do you ever think about having children?”

“Hell yeah, Kyra and I are practicing every day, sometimes three to four times a day.” His grin turned sinfully wicked and my mind turned to silk sheets and dark chocolate. Oh, shit, that was just wrong. After all, I am happily married, but damn, the things I can imagine.

With effort I steered my thoughts back on course. “I’m doing Zeke’s story next. Is there anything you want to share about him?”

“Nope, but maybe you can share with me something about the guy.”

I found myself more than a little curious as to what Tegan could possibly want to know about his best friend. “What can I possibly learn about him that you don’t already know?”

He leaned in conspiratorially across the booth. “Why the hell does he wear those shades? He even sleeps with them on. I’ve never seen what his eyes look like and in fact wondered if he was blind at first, but nawh, he wouldn’t be able to fight like he does if he couldn’t see.”

Humm, that was a good question, and one that I knew would be difficult to get out of Zeke. In fact, it seemed there was a lot Zeke didn’t share with himself, even with his best friend.

“Before I wrap this up, is there anything you would like the readers to know about you?”

“Yeah, just this, if you run into me in a dark alley, turn around and run like hell, cause if I’m there, sure as shit I’m with something much nastier than a mugger.”

Well, with that said, I thanked Tegan. He just nodded and I got the hint it was time for me to get my ass back to the safer side of the city and get ready for my interview with the enigmatic Atlantean Enforcer Zeke.

5 Questions of an Erotic Contemporary Romance Author - Nicole Morgan

Welcome back to the Weird, the Wild, and the Wicked. Today I have the honor of hosting erotic romance author Nicole Morgan, an erotic romance author with a recent release through Siren Publishing. Please note, this post has adult content, so if you don't like to read that or you're under 18, now is a good time to retreat to more PG pages. Now, on to the interview.
Nicole Morgan

Welcome, Nicole. Thank you for being with me today.

Thanks for having me, Siobhan.

What started you on the path to becoming an erotic romance author?

My path to writing began from first a love of erotic romance and then blossomed after my tenacious mind kept coming up with stories in my mind. I figured I would quit fighting arguments with myself as people tend to look at you strange when you talk to yourself and put pen to paper. Or in my case, fingers to keyboard. J

Congratulations on your recent release on Intimate Confessions with Siren Publishing. This is the second installment of the Intimate Temptations series. Introduce us to the main characters and premise of your story.

This installment tells about Derek and Sandi. Derek is the brother to Quinn who we learned about in the first book. Sandi is the sweet young woman who a couple of years earlier snuck past his defenses and into his heart. Her age and lack of life experience played an unfortunate hand in their relationship. Leaving behind Derek in search of more out of life, Sandi broke his heart. After two years of trying to forget the only woman he ever loved he decides to accept an invitation to a luxury resort of the adult persuasion. Fate surprises them both when they are brought face to face with one another again. Old wounds are ripped back open as the two try to determine if love is enough to erase the pains of the past.

Did anything in particular inspire this story?

Wow, that is a question. I find myself oddly unable to answer. The premise of the story line didn’t come from anywhere special other than my vivid imagination. However, I must admit I am a hopeless romantic and can’t help but wish that we all have that special perfect person out there for all of us. You might say that is where my motivation of these two long lost loves reuniting came from.

I understand you’ve just finished your first paranormal. What made you choose erotic contemporary as your first romance genre?

Well, that’s a funny story. I used to only read suspense novels. Years ago I read a suspense novel which held romantic undertones. That prompted me to expand my horizons a bit. So I started reading romance novels. I fell in love with them. After all that’s the whole point behind them isn’t it? Love. One day I was at a Border’s tore (miss those, by the way) and they were having a big sidewalk type sale. The books were up to 75% off. I mean, I would have been foolish to not stock up on some titles, right? Think of all the money I saved myself. So, I accidentally (seriously) picked up an erotic romance book by Maya Banks. That was the beginning of my erotic romance affliction. The rest, as they say, is history.

What other projects are on the horizon for you that we’re likely to see?

My 4th book in my Sweet Awakenings series, Sweet Affliction, which focuses on Navy SEALs, is due out May 1, 2012 through Siren Bookstrand. I have a novella called Impetuous being released (tentatively) in June of this year through Silver Publishing. That is the first book in my Incessant Passions series which will hold at least three books.  Then there is my paranormal romance which I’ve just recently submitted for publication consideration. That is also the first book of a series, but I’m keeping the titles under wraps since nothing is ironed out yet. Also, I’m a bit superstitious so I don’t like to give too much away. I’m quirky that way. Currently I’m trying to wrap up my latest work in progress which doesn’t have a title yet, but centers on a former Marine turned Chief of Police and his unexpected love affair with a young rookie. Sounds scandalous, right? Well, you don’t know the half of it. J

Thank you for joining me today, Nicole, and we look forward to all your upcoming releases!

Thanks so much for having me. It was a lot of fun talking about all my upcoming works. I hope everyone who reads this finds 2012 to be the best year yet.

BLURB

When Derek met Sandi, all the pieces of his life fell into place, but the young and inexperienced Sandi wanted desperately to discover who she was and pushed Derek away in search of something she was missing.

Devastated from losing Sandi, Derek arrives at Pleasure Seekers, an estate which specializes in play of the adult variety, anxious to start his new life. A chance encounter with the very woman he was trying to forget brings his plans to as screeching halt.

Angry and wanting nothing more than to hurt her in the way she had him, he sets out to do just that. Only Sandi has changed in their time apart and is willing to do anything to get him back in her life again.

Old wounds and intimate confessions come to the surface as the couple faces the choice of forgiving or forgetting the only person they've ever loved.

EXCERPT
“Look at that,” she whispered, her head now leaning back against his chest.
“Yes. I see them. Tell me what you see.” Please, he said to himself.
“It’s so beautiful. Look at how they’re all so focused on making each other feel good. The way Aiden is taking him in his mouth, do you see the look in his eyes? I know that look. I know how that feels. When you can’t get enough of that person.” She brought his hand up to her mouth and kissed it. “It’s how I feel when I do that to you. It’s such a feeling of dire need. Like all I will ever need is you inside of my mouth. Stretching and working my jaw as you hit the back of my throat.”
“Baby, you are so good to me.” He felt strangely tender in that moment despite what they were watching.
Her hand reached up over her and covered his mouth. “Please let me finish.”
He smiled. “Sure, go ahead.”
“Look at how Zach and the other man are watching each other. Do you see how they’re alternating their thrusts as though to not give Aiden too much at once? And how Zach’s hand hasn’t stopped stroking him? It’s like they’re taking care of him. This isn’t just about three men fucking. They’re taking care of one another.”
Jesus. He didn’t know how, but he was starting to see what she was saying.
“Look at Zach’s face, Derek. Look at how close you can tell he is. He keeps slowing down and clenching his jaw. He won’t stop, though, because as long as Aiden is moaning and his body is rocking between them, they’re going to keep fucking him.”
She turned around and placed her hands on his chest. “It’s so beautiful, Derek. When I see things like that, when I see people giving each other pleasure, I don’t see anything other than beauty. And then it makes me ache for you.”
Despite the sweetness in her eyes and the softness of her voice, he knew this was not a time to make love to her. No. This was a time to take her in a way he never had before. And if she got off on watching three men fucking, then that was what she would see.
“Turn around, spread your legs, and place your hands high up on the wall.” His curt tone was meant to do one thing and one thing only. Excite her. The flush that rose in her cheeks told him it did just that. He watched her do exactly as he said, but didn’t think she’d spread her legs far enough apart.
“I said spread your legs.” He brought his hand back and slapped it across one of her cheeks. “Prove to me how badly you want my cock pumping your pussy.”
There it was again. She gasped. Not like she had minutes before, but she was close. Holy hell! His sweet Sandi, the love of his life, liked it rough and dirty sometimes.
“I’m waiting.” He slapped his hand across the other ass cheek. He was taken aback at first by the handprint appearing from the first slap, but despite his shock, his cock twitched and became unbearably hard at the sight.
He came up behind her, bent his knees slightly, positioned his head against her sopping wet hole, and whispered into her ear, “What do you want?”
